Who is
Green Gardner
Designs?
We are a permaculture-inspired native plant landscaping company founded in Southcentral PA by Jes and Ian Gardner. Our main focus is to create landscapes that work for people while benefiting nature.
Jes is a local community garden manager who understands the importance of quality food and how to prepare it. She also has over a decade of experience with home renovations and has an intuitive eye for use of space and color.
Ian has degrees in Wildlife Conservation and Forestry, plus over 12 years of experience with native plants in central Pennsylvania. He’s spent most of that time studying plants in the wild and now also enjoys helping other people find that connection to nature.

Why landscape
with native plants?
Native plants are adapted to the local climate and soil conditions and therefore need less water, fertilizers, and pesticides while supporting a whole ecosystem in your yard. Using native plants also helps to offset human impacts while preserving local biodiversity.
What is Permaculture?
Permaculture is an integrated holistic approach to living. It involves consciously creating sustainable systems to make life more purposeful. These concepts can be as simple as compost bins or as complex as rainwater irrigation systems. We use this methodology in every aspect of our designs.
How It Works
Consultation,
& ObservationWhether you’re looking to improve the aesthetics of your landscape, identify native and invasive plants, grow food, or provide wildlife habitat—we take the time to get to know you and your property, so we can best match your goals with the space you have.Landscape
DesignOur designs vary based on the size and complexity of your landscape. Some examples include Edible Landscapes, Food Forests, Pollinator Gardens, and Native Wildflower Meadows.Sourcing &
Site PreparationWe have relationships with several local nurseries that specialize in native and edible plants. It’s important to support local businesses to minimize our environmental impact, build community, and emphasize our connection to place.Implementation
& MaintenanceWe offer design implementation based on your needs and the size of the project. With ecological landscaping, a garden should be viewed as a piece of music, rather than a painting. It’s a cohesive plant community that’s designed to change naturally over time. Our goal is to help guide your landscape through the seasons and years ahead.
